AUGUST NEWSLETTER
Can you believe it’s August already! The kids are going back to school this week and this morning it was 52 degrees in Castle Rock! The trees in my backyard are turning yellow on the tips too. These signs are our signal that Fall is right around the corner—our favorite time of year.
If you are starting to think about warm color fabrics that scream fall, and quilt kits that sew up quickly for friends and family, here are a few ideas to start with:
Kansas Troubles Fabric and Pre-cuts: Kansas Troubles fabric collections have nature-inspired color palettes. Each collection is comprised of 75% dark colors and 25% light colors. The Kansas Troubles fabric collections are mostly dark colors to convey the primitive, historical theme of a quilt but have enough lights to make the quilt sparkle. The prints from one Kansas Troubles fabric collection play well with the fabrics from another or other primitive fabrics. We have Hope Blooms Jelly Rolls, Jiffy Kit Log Cabin Star Wall Hanging Kit, and 44-45” wide Prairie Dreams Collection along with complementary 108” wide Kansas Troubles Quilt Backs.
The entire collection is here.
Fall Barn Quilt Kits: The Fall Barn Quilts Panel Quilt Boxed Kit includes pattern and fabric for quilt top and binding. Complementary backing fabrics can be found in the Kansas Troubles collection. The fabric line featured in this kit is Awesome Fall Barn Quilts by Tara Reed for Riley Blake Designs. The pattern included is by the RBD Designers.
You can find the Fall Barn Quilt Kits on our site.
Jiffy Kit-Celebrate the Seasons Wall Hangings: From January to December, there are many seasonal holidays that we recognize and celebrate. Celebrate the Seasons, by Me + You Modern Fabrics for Hoffman California Fabrics, is a collection of 13 Hoffman Spectrum Digital print panels that recognize monthly festivities. We have taken the panels and created Jiffy Kits for each so all you need to do is sit and sew!! These little wall or door hangings are so delightful to welcome the month’s favorite celebration and you can have it sewn and quilted in a DAY!
We only have a few left so hurry to get yours here!

Log Cabin Block
I’ve had many customers ask me for Log Cabin quilt patterns, probably because of the name of our shop! So, I thought it would be appropriate to send a log cabin quilt pattern along with a tutorial that you can have at your right hand. There are countless variations and layouts to choose.
Here is one of my favorites—The Barn Raising Log Cabin Quilt.

TIPS, TRICKS & TECHNIQUES
Sometimes the easiest tips make the biggest difference in our quilting. If you square up your blocks as you go along, you won’t run into accurate seaming issues later. Make sure your blocks are the same size by using a quilter’s square ruler. No one is perfect and they likely will need some adjustments to meet the size requirement for your pattern. This tip goes along with last months’ tip for ensuring an accurate seam allowance. If your block isn’t the size it should be, determine where adjustments need to be make (e.g., increasing a seam, or letting out one portion of a seam.
It’s possible that some of the pieces in your block may need to be recut too. It just depends on how big of a discrepancy needs to be corrected to avoid problems down the road.
Finally, remember that 108" quilting fabric can be used for any quilting, sewing, or craft project. And--you need much less fabric than 44-45 wide fabric requires. Did you know that 2.5 yards of 108" backing is equivalent to 7+ yards of 44-45" wide fabric. Purchasing a wide-width fabric for your next project will save you time and money!!
And don't forget that if you are unsure if a fabric color or style is right for your project, we will be happy to send a complementary swatch to you upon request.
Happy Quilting!
